Hamilton Family Center Shares in National Award Presented in New York City
The Mutual of America Community Partnership Award recognizes outstanding nonprofit organizations in the United States that have shown exemplary leadership by facilitating partnerships with public, private or social sector leaders who are working together as equal partners, not as donors and recipients, to build a cohesive community that serves as a model for collaborating with others for the greater good.
In November 2008, Hamilton Family Center was honored at a reception in New York City as a partner in the Family Eviction Prevention Consortium (FEPCO), along with Catholic Charities CYO, Homeless Prenatal Program, and Compass Community Services. The 4 agencies tcomprising FEPCO works collaboratively to prevent homelessness by providing rental assistance to families to stave off eviction and help those in shelters or substandard housing find permanent homes.
National Achievement Award
In 2007, Hamilton Family Center was honored at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. by the National Alliance to End Homelessness for our transformation from an organization focused on sheltering homeless families to one that ends homelessness for families. This transformation is causing a change in the way the City of San Francisco is approaching the issue. First Avenues: Housing Solutions for Families, launched in July 2006, rapidly re-houses families into permanent housing and was the first Housing-First for Families program in San Francisco.
Following a Housing-First philosophy, Hamilton Family Center is committed to reallocating resources to prevent families from ever entering shelter, providing temporary rental subsidies to keep families housed while they work to increase their income, rapidly re-housing families currently in shelter, and providing enhanced home-based support services to help families stay on track with their goals and maintain their homes.
